PMO in Bourges – L’âme musicale de George Sand

George Sand’s musical imagination takes center stage in this concert-reading devised by the Paris Mozart Orchestra and artistic director Claire Gibault. Her writings about music and her friendship with singer Pauline Viardot shape a program that moves from Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony to traditional music from Berry. Actress Suliane Brahim of the Comédie-Française stages the performance and gives Sand’s words a vivid dramatic voice. Soprano Margaux Poguet adds another vocal color, allowing literature and music to answer one another instead of sitting side by side. Together, these choices reveal a writer attentive to musical form, performance and the emotional force of sound. The recital traces how listening, friendship and artistic exchange informed Sand’s world, while the Berry repertoire reconnects her cosmopolitan tastes with the landscape and communities that nourished her writing.
