In Prats-de-Mollo-la-Preste, the Feux de la Saint Jean, or Focs de la Sant Joan, connect the village to one of the strongest living traditions of Catalan northern Occitanie: the Flama del Canigó. Around 23 June, fire is shared from place to place as a sign of continuity, fraternity and attachment to the mountain. The celebration is also tied to sardanes and to the Saint-Jean bouquet, made with plants that carry protective and seasonal meaning. The celebration presents Sant Joan as a living Catalan ritual in Vallespir, with fire, music and local custom at its centre.
