Chartres, douze arrêts sur mémoire: the atelier Aubert

Open-air panels from the atelier Aubert set today’s Chartres against the vanished city that his lens caught a hundred years earlier.

About this event

Twelve large prints line an open-air walk through the centre of Chartres, drawn from the atelier Aubert, whose photographer caught the city and its inhabitants at the start of the last century. Many of these images had never been shown. Each panel sets a street, a square or a corner of the cathedral surroundings beside what stands there now, from wartime damage to rebuilt quarters. The city invites passers-by to argue with its own memory.
