The exhibition ‘De terre et de souffle, Sifflets en argile de Sarthe et d’Europe’ presents the fascinating craft of clay whistles, traditionally made in the Sarthe region. Once prevalent in markets and fairs until the mid-20th century, these whistles transitioned from children’s toys to carefully staged sculptures, crafted by skilled artisans. Running from 3 April to 1 November 2026, the display aims to showcase the variety of shapes, uses, and origins of these instruments throughout Europe. Visitors can view these distinctive creations and gain insight into the craftsmanship that produces their distinct sounds.
