At the lavoir in Neuilly-en-Sancerre, textile art enters into dialogue with the sensitive and independent world associated with George Sand. Fibre and fabric offer a material language for themes that move between memory and imagination. The textile medium fits this exchange particularly well because cloth carries traces of labour, domestic life and touch, all closely connected with the rural society Sand observed. The exhibition avoids literal illustration of her books and frames textile creation as a contemporary response to their atmosphere and freedom.
