Fête du Maërl in Plougastel-Daoulas: Celebrate Heritage

The Fête du Maërl, held every four years in Plougastel-Daoulas, is a celebration of the region’s maritime and agricultural heritage. This year’s festival takes place on August 15, 2026, attracting thousands of visitors from all walks of life. The morning kicks off in the village center with lively Breton dances performed by the Bleuniou Sivi circle, a parade of horse-drawn carriages and vintage tractors, accompanied by music from the Adarre bagad. At 11 a.m., the Pont Callec site becomes a bustling village of artisans showcasing traditional crafts, allowing attendees to delve into the area’s rich cultural practices. In the afternoon, guests can participate in Breton games like straw bale tossing, axle lifting, and tug-of-war, ensuring entertainment for all ages. Children will enjoy a variety of activities, including the creation of a mural to commemorate the day. Around 5:30 p.m., spectators can witness the arrival of around 30 old schooners, shimmering in the water as part of the festivities.
