On July 9, 2026, the Alkymia ensemble will perform a concert titled “Sucreries” at Église Saint-Nicolas in Meursault. The programme presents a musical arc that evokes the historical musical landscape of Sucre, once known as La Plata during the Hispanic viceroyalty of Upper Peru. Audiences will be transported through time, exploring polyphonies composed for the chapels of La Plata in the 17th and 18th centuries, salon music from the 19th century, and traditional dances of today. The program features sacred villancicos created for significant celebrations, including Christmas and Corpus Christi, rich in Counterpoint and Spanish dance influences, embodying the early Baroque spirit. In addition, the concert includes instrumental works for guitar and viola da gamba, highlighting the interplay of these traditional instruments with contemporary interpretations of colonial dances. The performance culminates with cuecas by Siméon Roncal and Matilde Casasola, representing Baroque heritage in popular dance. Under the direction of Mariana Delgadillo Espinoza, the Alkymia ensemble skillfully merges ancient and modern music, creating a rich auditory tapestry that evokes connection and wonder through sound.
