The Vêpres de la Vierge event will be held on July 24, 2026, at 9 PM in the Basilique Notre-Dame of Beaune. This performance examines sacred music’s rich tapestry through Monteverdi’s groundbreaking composition. Originally released in 1610 to capture the attention of Pope Paul V, the work features a blend of liturgical and theatrical styles. Under the direction of Etienne Meyer and artistic guidance from Judith Pacquier, the ensemble Les Traversées Baroques will present this significant piece, known for their expertise in early Italian Baroque music. The featured cast includes sopranos Capucine Keller and Dagmar Šašková, along with tenor Vincent Bouchot, supported by a specialized choir and orchestra. With a duration of two hours, the evening presents a fusion of plainchant and invigorating sacred theatre, inviting audiences into a realm where prayer meets artistry. The programme is part of the 44th edition of the Festival international d’opéra baroque de Beaune, presenting the depth of baroque opera.
