Deletions, changes and adjustments reveal how a novel continued to take shape after composition had moved into the publishing process. Installed among the château’s permanent collections, the proofs connect Balzac’s craft with a house closely associated with his writing. The Touraine loan also strengthens the regional context, bringing a significant document from a municipal collection into direct conversation with the museum devoted to the author.
