Droit de la nature is a theatre work about George Sand presented by Compagnie Cité Internationale at the Bourges Conservatoire. Its title places the natural world at the centre of the dramatic inquiry, drawing attention to a writer whose fiction and public thought repeatedly engaged with rural life. The production offers a stage-based route into Sand’s ideas, using performance to make literary material immediate without reducing it to biography. Bourges provides a meaningful setting within Berry, the territory that shaped much of her observation of landscape, labour and society. The auditorium format keeps the encounter concentrated on language, presence and the relationship between human choices and living environments. With limited narrative detail supplied in advance, the clearest promise is also the most compelling: a contemporary company interpreting Sand through the urgent question of nature’s place in collective life.
