ELLES, Parcours féminins

Paintings, sculptures and writings recover women artists overlooked by history through rarely shown and newly restored museum works.

About this event

ELLES, Parcours féminins de l’atelier au musée examines how women artists move from creative practice into public collections and historical recognition. Paintings, sculptures and writings bring forward makers whose work was often forgotten or left outside the dominant account of art. Rarely seen pieces from the Bourges museums’ reserves give the exhibition material depth, including works that have recently been restored. The route asks visitors to consider not only what women created, but also how museums acquired, stored, interpreted or overlooked that work. Its dialogue with George Sand adds a local figure of female independence without reducing the subject to a single biography. Within Bourges’s Maison des Musées, the exhibition becomes a contemporary rereading of art history grounded in actual objects, conservation work and the institutional choices that shape visibility.
