Rians Sand Writing Atelier

The Rians writing workshop uses the celebrated Sand-Flaubert correspondence as a prompt for adults to compose a new letter. Participants can write alone or collectively, deciding which author to address and what a present-day response should carry across the distance. Puzzle Centre provides guidance while leaving room for differences in tone, argument and personal voice. The task encourages close attention to the form of a letter: its recipient, opening, movement of thought and final gesture. Sand’s connection with Berry gives the exercise local depth, while Flaubert brings another literary temperament into the exchange. By moving from reading to composition, the workshop moves correspondence from archive to active practice, showing how one person’s words can provoke another writer to question, answer or continue a conversation.
