Under Jean-Yves Clément’s artistic direction, Lisztomanias explores Franz Liszt as a Romantic musician, performer and cultural phenomenon. Recitals, lectures, literary concerts, café-concerts and discovery performances for young virtuosos reveal his work from several angles. Masterclasses in interpretation and improvisation add a transmission strand, connecting established artists with developing musicians. The festival’s dialogue with George Sand is especially resonant in Châteauroux: Liszt was her friend and visited Nohant twice with Marie d’Agoult before carrying his piano career across Europe. Bringing their histories together allows music and literature to illuminate a shared artistic world while rooting an international composer in the cultural landscape of Berry for audiences across Châteauroux’s varied city-centre venues.
Lisztomanias: Franz and George
Lisztomanias joins recitals, talks and masterclasses around Franz Liszt and his creative friendship with George Sand at Nohant.
