  • Huchall’s Fest-Deiz and Fest-Noz in Gouarec

    Huchall organizes Gouarec’s fest-deiz and fest-noz, inviting families and friends to take part in Breton dancing. The billed artists play for the dancers, who have a wooden floor underfoot. Light food and a drinks stand are available on site, and the standard admission charge for the gathering is €8.

Hent Ar Mor’s production draws on the struggle of the Penn Sardin, the women whose collective action shaped Breton social history. Songs accompany a story of solidarity, stubborn employers and the fight for dignity, for audiences aged ten and above.

  • Terre-Neuve, Canada: Des histoires de fierté

    Lynda Paquette and Martin Parent explore Newfoundland through encounters with fishermen, artists, writers and keepers of local traditions. Their documentary follows the island’s layered history, including Basque and Breton fishing connections. Music, cod fishing and marine wildlife sit alongside the experiences of the people they meet.

  • Manoir de Kerhoas: Bigouden Heritage

    Manoir de Kerhoas revisits the Bigouden world evoked in Claude Chabrol’s film adaptation, which used the manor as a setting. Picot embroidery, lace-making and traditional dress accompany displays, paintings and sculpture. Talks on seaweed workers and a Breton meal inspired by Bigouden wedding feasts broaden the programme beyond the exhibitions.

  • Octobre rose: Fest-Noz with L’Anecdote and Fréval

    L’Anecdote and Fréval provide the music for Breton dancing at Trélivan’s “Octobre rose : Fest Noz”. The evening raises funds for the Ligue contre le cancer, with admission proceeds donated to the charity. Entry is a minimum contribution of €6, leaving dancers free to give more to the fundraising effort.

  • Chansons en pêche: Fishing Lives in Song

    Fishermen’s songs in French and Breton recount working lives at sea and changing fishing practices. Chansons en pêche follows an orally transmitted repertoire concerned with whales, cod, sardines, tuna and lobster. Anecdotes and images accompany the sung poetry, bringing the words of fishing communities into a concert in Douarnenez.

    Poetry punctuates a conversation between Yvon Le Men and Jean-Michel Le Boulanger about artistic freedom and cultural policy. Their exchange takes its cue from kan ha diskan, the Breton call-and-response tradition. Censorship, cuts to cultural budgets and the work of artists and volunteers give the discussion its concrete concerns.

  • Les Bretons dans tous leurs états: Maryse Vanghent

    Brittany supplies the inspiration for Maryse Vanghent’s Les Bretons dans tous leurs états. Originally from Dunkirk, the painter trained in egg tempera and oil painting before making her home in the region. Her practice also includes restoring chapel murals at Château de Blain with the Compagnons de Saint-Roch, a background in craft that accompanies this exhibition of her own work.

  • MEMES TRA ! Fest-Noz in Pluneret

    Festerion Ar Brug brings its Pluneret music and dance ensemble to MEMES TRA !. Penn Gwen and LAB Collectif Klam complete the programme for this Breton fest-noz. Dancing is at the heart of the gathering, with the local ensemble taking part alongside the two other acts; admission is by voluntary contribution.

    Laëtitia introduces candle-making through touch, scent and a small candle that participants pour themselves. At Ty Bougies in Tréguier, the visit moves from handling wax to exploring the fragrances used in the craft.
