This cine-concert pairs Jean Epstein’s silent film Mauprat with a new live musical interpretation rooted in George Sand’s Berry. Adapted from her novel and filmed around Sainte-Sévère and Nohant, the story follows Bernard de Mauprat from brigandage toward his decisive encounter with the courageous Edmée. Its romantic plot carries a feminist current through Edmée’s influence and moral resolve. Gilles Chabenat plays electro-acoustic hurdy-gurdy, joined by Nicolas Mingot on acoustic and electric guitars and Yannick Hardouin on bass guitar and piano. Popular musical forms meet contemporary textures, allowing the landscape, drama and social tensions of Sand’s narrative to acquire a vivid second voice within a story born directly from Berry itself.
Mauprat Cine-Concert
Jean Epstein’s Mauprat meets hurdy-gurdy, guitars, bass and piano in a cine-concert rooted in George Sand’s Berry landscapes.
